Case Interview HQ

About Case Interview HQ

Practical guides to strategy consulting recruiting since 2011.

Stephan Spijkers

Stephan Spijkers founded Case Interview HQ in 2011 after working through the strategy consulting selection process himself: written test, case rounds and partner interviews. He has interviewed candidates from the other side of the table, coached students one-on-one and in group sessions, and wrote Cracking the Case and the two Key to the PST practice books. Today he runs PIMvendors.com, a product information management consultancy.

Why this site exists

When Stephan prepared for his own consulting interviews, he spent hundreds of dollars on books and audio guides and still had to piece the process together himself. He started Case Interview HQ in 2011 to put the whole route in one place: resume, written test, case interviews and partner rounds.

Friends and coaching clients kept asking which single book to read. That question became Cracking the Case in 2012. A friend preparing for McKinsey’s written test asked for a full practice test, and that request became The Key to the PST and later The Second Key to the PST.

How the guides are written and updated

Every guide opens with a short, direct answer, followed by the reasoning and evidence. Facts about current recruiting formats are checked against the firms’ own careers pages first, and against recent candidate reports second; each guide lists its sources and labels estimates as estimates. The full library was rewritten and updated in October 2026, and is also available in Dutch and in German.

Independence

Case Interview HQ is independent. It is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by McKinsey & Company, Boston Consulting Group, Bain & Company or any other firm mentioned on the site.
